SELF ANALYSIS | COLOR EXERCISE

For this project I chose to focus on colors and pigment. For paintings I’ve done in the past I’ve focused on the details of one specific item and then painted in the background color afterwards. This time I worked on color blocking to prepare for details later. While this made me feel like I was making little to no progress I was pleased with the how vibrant my colors came out and how clean my lines are.

Something I learned while doing this project was that you need many many coats to get each color block to be crisp and even. One thing I will try in the next project is putting down a base coat and then blocking the smaller items on top to avoid trying to make crisp lines with the color from the items and the color from the background. I am also looking forward to adding more details in the next painting. The details I will begin focusing on are shadows and highlights to create depth and add to my overall composition.
