PROJECT 3

The objective of this project was to create a visual bridge that our eyes easily walk over. We were allowed to use whatever colors and textures fit our theme as long as they flowed together nicely. The theme I’ve chosen to continue is hair, specifically Black/ African American hair. In my color bridge, I used a combination of yellow, pink, brown, red, and black tones from the copyright photos I selected. This piece was used to demonstrate my ability to compile transitioning images but also to show the beauty and versatility in black hair and skin.

In today’s American society a lot of Black hairstyles are shamed and restricted. At the end of my color bridge, it features dreads that break out the bubbles all the other skin and hairstyles are compiled in throughout the image. I chose dreads specifically to symbolized a rebellion against the “norms” set for black hair. I’ve heard many stories where someone was denied in a professional setting because of traditional African, African-American, and Black hair. In today’s society, I think it is important to change these prejudice ideas associated with black hair from negative to positive.
